Iffy Allen has now penned a one year deal at Huish Park having impressed manager Paul Sturrock whilst on trial.

The 21 year old has been with us for the last month, and having come through the ranks at Fulham he joined Barnet in 2012 and whilst with them spent time with Kingstonian, Redhill and Wingate and Finchley for experience.

Speaking to the Official Site after the player penned the deal, Sturrock explained that he’d certainly done enough to earn himself a chance with us – but of course the hardwork really begins now.

‘Iffy came to us with no real background after a spell at Barnet, where he only played a few games. He is a very exciting winger and his potential is huge, he showed glimpses of his potential against Torquay in the friendly last week.’

Sturrock goes on to say that he’s demonstrated in training so far that he knows where the goal is and he’s got a good consistent cross delivery on him as well but ultimately it is a punt as potential counts for nothing unless you realise it.

‘We have have taken a chance on him and it is up to him to force himself into the team. I have watched him in training over the past month and that is where I see and learn most things about the players, he is not the finished article by a long shot. I am excited by what I have seen in the games and training and I believe I can mould him into a exceptional player.’

One bit that made me smile is in the ‘5 things about’ the club do for each of the new signings, for Iffy fact No 2 stands out.

‘2) Our new man’s full name is Ifeanyi Tafari Decosta Allen, we’ve already begun elocution lessons with the BBC Somerset commentators, but they, like us, will probably just use ‘Iffy’.’

Well if it’s good enough for them…welcome Iffy!
