Bakayogo Blow For Glovers

The Glovers could suffer a slight blow to our SkyBet Championship survival hopes as Zoumana Bakayogo is possibly in doubt of having his loan spell cut short after playing just a little over half an hour on his debut.

Gary Johnson brought in the Leicester left-back on loan on Friday with him deciding that he knew enough about him from seeing the former Tranmere defender perform in League One last season, with his performances earning him his move to Leicester last summer but he isn’t getting the football he needs this season.

Liam Davis broke his toe last week and this saw Bakayogo brought in and given an instant debut but he was forced to limp away with a knee injury after just 34-minutes of the vital win over Birmingham on Saturday.

It wasn’t clear on Sunday, when Johnson was talking in The Western Gazette, how bad it was but I’d not be too optimistic about his chances of this being a quick one to recover from.

As if that wasn’t bad enough Jamie McAllister, who came on to replace him, didn’t even last as long as he was forced off by an injury of his own 20-minutes (game time wise) later so Matteo Lanzoni came on to make his debut and become the third player used in that position on the day.

Johnson might have been on the lookout for another left-back after these injury setbacks but Lanzoni’s performance might have eased those concerns and by the managers own admission the Italian might have played himself into the side for the next game, if others can’t recover.
