If we’re going to meet the target that Gary Johnson’s set to stay in the SkyBet League 1 this season we’ve got one less game to manage this from as Saturday saw us suffer a loss at Barnsley.

Whatever “confidence” was gained from the Manchester United FA Cup tie didn’t have any impact at Oakwell with Barnsley beating us 2-0.

AJ Leitch-Smith should, at least could, have given us a first half lead when he was put through on goal but he wasn’t able to hit the target with his effort, which he put wide. Minutes later this miss was made all the more costly when we lost Cardiff loanee Ben Nugent to his second sending off of his loan spell.

A tangle with George Waring saw him dismissed for an elbow on the Stoke loanee.

Conor Hourihane had a chance before half time but it wasn’t long after that Waring converted from close range to put Barnsley ahead when Jed Steer, under pressure from Mason Holgate, couldn’t claim allowing Waring to score.

Steer conceded a penalty when he brought down Hourihane, who stepped up himself to send his the wrong way and end any hopes, which didn’t look likely anyway, of a Glovers comeback with 15 minutes left.

We’re now five points from safety!
