Manager Gary Johnson has said he had some ‘man to man’ talks with the players in the dressing room following today’s embarrassing loss, and he has a week of big decisions to make now in terms of personnel to move us forward for the rest of the season.

Speaking to the press, the gaffer explained again that our only task is to be better than three other teams in the division, and he appreciates that one of those teams will not be our opponents today, but even so he didn’t feel the performance was right.

‘We were very poor in the first half and weak. We came out and created three or dour chances in the second half but weren’t good enough to take them. At this stage a manager looks at it and sees which players can cut it, some big decisions have to be made. At 5-1 you can scream and shout but maybe it’s time to make a few changes.’

Johnson goes on to say that he feels he has given every player enough chances to show that they can compete at this level and he does have a list of players who will be circulated to other clubs, and list is split between those he feels can be competitive, but he knows there are some ‘shrinking violet-ish players’ who really need to step up and prove themselves.

However, he adds that people he hasn’t played and he name checks Paddy Madden and Dan Seaborne, he doesn’t feel can compete at this level, and he’s adding numbers to that list and those will be the players who leave.

Be interesting to see who he feels he can keep faith with and as he calls January a very busy month for the club, just how many changes he plans on making.
