Double Delight For Johnson

Manager Gary Johnson was pleased for two reasons at full time yesterday.

Not only did Yeovil pick up three much needed points with a one nil victory over Doncaster Rovers, a win which brings us back to being within three points now of actually exiting the bottom three as things stand, but also the win has helped drag Doncaster themselves back into the mix more at the bottom of the table, as they are now only five points ahead of us in 20th place.

Speaking to the press following James Hayter’s winning penalty on the hour mark, the gaffer would’ve been delighted with the chances we created and we could’ve, or maybe should’ve, at least doubled our advantage on the day.

With Doncaster bossing possession as well, but being limited to only two strikes on target, defensively there were plenty of positives as well and the effort was well rewarded with a clean sheet.

Of course with all three teams in the relegation zone winning, our result also stopped us from falling away at the bottom.

‘It’s important when you’re near the bottom of the league that you keep your shape and create chances, and we did that. We deserved the win. One nil is a bit hairy scary, and looking at results it was important we stayed in touch. The result has brought Millwall and Doncaster closer to us.’

Johnson says the game itself wasn’t pretty at all, but he admits our home surface isn’t conducive to pretty football given the weather we’ve had of late, but the whole team put in a shift and he couldn’t credit them more for that, and ultimately pretty football is a bonus at the moment, what matters are the results and the points.

It’s important we keep this mini run going, another win next time could prove the turning point.
