Duffy Snubbed Offers For Yeovil Return

On loan Evertonian defender Shane Duffy has admitted that he rejected a number of alternative loan deals to return to the club in January.

Duffy has been one of the outstanding highlights this season so far, which is unfortunate given he isn’t our player, but his performances have attracted plenty of interest in him and that came to the fore in January with the offers that Everton received for his services.

However, having enjoyed his time at Huish Park since initially joining us on loan back in September 2013, and playing regularly for us, he told the Western Daily Press that he decided to continue to test himself with us as he saw it as a good challenge, and obviously the benefit is given how good we have been to him so far, it means he can continue to help us in our aim of avoiding relegation as well.

‘It was a good test to stay here, I could have gone to other places, but I wanted to stay. I thought it would be a test for myself and the lads. I have never been in this situation in my career, so I wanted to give it my best shot. If we come out of it, hopefully it will be good for my career, it will have stood me in good stead.’

Many will think that sounds very selfish, but I don’t. It’s the reality of it, and he is a young and talented lad striving to give himself a good career, and where a number of players would’ve taken an easier option than coming back to us, it serves his purpose educationally for us to avoid the drop, and this works for all parties if it can happen.

‘We have got some important home games that will see where we are. We have had a rough time with a few tough results and we haven’t really got the squad to cover playing them (the likes of Southampton, Derby, Forest) every week, but we’re going to give it a good go and now we’re playing teams around us. We need to win these games, that’s what really matters.’

Hopefully we can get those all important points in our next game out, and things will start to look a little bit rosier. Bottom line is we can’t keep dropping points now, there has to be a change in fortunes by hook or by crook.
