Asmir Begovic enjoyed a loan with Yeovil, two in fact, earlier in his career when he came from Portsmouth. Making it in the Premier League wasn’t a surprise with him today leaving Stoke for Chelsea.

This fee, to take him to Stamford Bridge, hasn’t been disclosed but the BBC reports this as being as much as £8m for the 28-year-old?

Begovic was well known to Glovers fans long before Chelsea or Stoke even, for that matter more than likely before too many Portsmouth fans were aware of him and his ability when we took him on loan in 2008.

During these two loan spells in 2008 he made 16 appearances for us with it fairly obvious, even then, the Bosnian and Herzegovina international, who could have chosen to be a Canadian international at the time if I recall, had something about him.

A regular with Stoke since making that move from Fratton Park in 2010 he’ll now be looking for another step up with the Premier League Champions as he battles with Thibaut Courtois to become Jose Mourinho’s no.1.

In another little snippet of news today our pre-season friendly against Callington has been brought forward two-hours from 3pm to a 1pm kick-off now.
