The SkyBet League 1 worries were momentarily put behind us with a victory, which can hopefully act as a catalyst, and a place in the FA Cup second round secured by The Glovers on Saturday.

An early goal was enough as a 1-0 win, that we deserved, was secured over our SkyBet League 1 rivals Crawley Town at Huish Park.

Only two minutes in we almost took the lead, but it was a sign of things to come, when Sam Foley cut in and curled an effort towards Jamie Ashdown’s goal. The Crawley goalkeeper was beaten by the curling effort couldn’t quite curl enough to beat the post instead hitting it.

A first goal for The Glovers, and a first senior goal in professional football, came from Jordy Hiwula with the Manchester City loanee proving too strong from the Crawley defence he then rounded Ashdown to score after seven minutes.

It could have been two, but we were happy with one at that stage.

Matt Harrold has previously played for us but his effort, that wasn’t on target, was as close as Crawley came to scoring in the first half.

A game that we were better throughout really was won, and rightly so, but we did have a worry when Izale McLeod got to the ball ahead of Aston Villa loanee goalkeeper Jed Steer but his effort went over.

We can now look forward to the second round draw on Monday, more importantly though some pressure has been lifted and some confidence should be gained that we can look to take back into the SkyBet League 1 campaign.
