If I was to be critical of Shane Duffy the thing I would fault him for would be his lack of goals, given the threat that he posed opposition defences as he got himself forward for deadballs.

Alas Duffy’s a defender with that his job first and foremost.

It was those defensive qualities that have seen the 22-year-old standout for The Glovers this season during his loan with us from Everton and it’s this form that has caught Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill’s eye with him handing him an international call up.

Now back with Everton it’ll probably be remembered, should he keep himself in the 32 when it’s cut from the provisional 32 for summer friendlies, as him being an Everton player should he make his debut but we’ll know that it was his time at Huish Park that brought about this international call up.

Well done Duffy and best of luck for the future can we have you back next season in the SkyBet League 1? No, I didn’t think so.
