We’ve got superiority when it comes to Football League status however we weren’t able to see off Torquay United at Plainmoor on Tuesday as they twice pegged us back in a 2-2 draw.

An all new central defence for The Glovers will be on display this for us in the SkyBet League 1 this season with Cardiff City loanee Ben Nugent coming in to partner summer signing Jakob Sokolik for the first time with Chris Weale given the nod to start in goal on this occasion.

Gary Johnson took the opportunity to again look at plenty of his squad and several trialists too, including some unknown names but after a goalless first half it was AJ Leitch-Smith that put us ahead as he converted from the penalty spot after Liam Davis had been fouled.

Courtney Cameron had Torquay level within minutes, catching most unaware it seems.

A goal ten minutes from time from Kamel Chergui would have been expected to see us through to a win, for what it would have been worth, but Torquay weren’t having that and levelled again when Elliott Benyon headed home three minutes from time.

Weale; Twumasi, Sokolik, Nugent, Smith; Hoskins, Dawson, Edwards, Davis; Hayter, Leitch-Smith. Subs: Stewart, Ralph, Martin, Lanzoni, Brooks, A Trialist, B Trialist, Takyi, Chergui, C Trialist, D Trialist.

Glovers Goals: Leitch-Smith (pen) 53, Chergui 80.
Torquay Goals: Cameron 59, Benyon 87.
