The emergency loan window might have closed on Thursday, meaning no transfers can take place for SkyBet Football League clubs now until January, but this hasn’t prevented us from adding to our squad.

Due to Alex Smith being a free agent he could be signed outside of the transfer window, which is what we done ahead of the game with Preston North End on Saturday.

Smith wasn’t signed in time to be eligible to play in our 2-0 defeat though.

The 23 year old Fulham youngster eventually left Craven Cottage after 11 seasons, and some loan spells away, to sign for Swindon Town but was released by our SkyBet League 1 rivals at the end of his one year contract, remaining a free agent since the summer.

Gary Johnson has given the left sided defender a chance and he’ll now spend the next month with The Glovers perhaps with the view to an extended contract in January, he’ll at least be looking to put himself in the shop window to make sure this return to the game isn’t a temporary one.

We look forward to seeing what you can do Alex.
