The Glovers have confirmed today that the long awaited news that planning application to have Huish Park developed will finally be submitted later this week with South Somerset District Council then reviewing this application in a meeting next month.
Should the plans not be approved, as much as John Fry doesn’t want this, the chairman has told The Official Website that we’d have to consider leaving Huish Park and look elsewhere to build a new stadium as we need something more fitting for the direction and vision we have.
‘We are a Championship club now, something that probably could never have been envisaged when we moved to Huish Park back in 1990, and for the sake of the club and all around us we must move on.
‘We are desperate to stay on the Huish Park site, however, the stadium needs massive investment to bring it up to modern Championship standards as does the infrastructure around it and the development will bring some 300 new jobs to the area.
‘I would therefore implore the council to work with us as partners to bring our long-standing negotiations to an end to benefit the community of Yeovil and our supporters.
‘It cannot afford to be held back and it would be a disaster for the town of Yeovil, if the club was forced to look elsewhere to move forward.’
Staying in the SkyBet Championship is something that we desperately want and if we can, the longer we are, the more important it is that we have a stadium fitting of that level.
If we’re unable to win our relegation battle this season and don’t stay up the extra income potential that the developed stadium, or new one if we have to move, that would come in then the better chance we’ve got of coming back to this level.

Arguments for and against as there are always are on redevelopment or new site, redevelopment you assume would be the cheaper option, and there is the wider community impact to consider as well as consolidating a new revenue stream for the club so Huish is more marketable on non match days. Planning and starting from scratch would probably be easier but, you’d think the Council would see redevelopment as the way through and the ground becoming a community hub for a whole host of reasons.
I’m a creature of habit who doesn’t like change so leaving Huish Park isn’t something I’d like but we’ve got to do what’s best.
