Manager Gary Johnson has admitted he’s hopeful of getting one or two strikers through the door ahead of our game this weekend against Bradford City.

In quotes carried by the Western Gazette the gaffer admitted he was hopeful of getting two in quickly that would boost our chances and turn our season around, but they say that suggestions of midfielder Michael Tidser coming in were wide of the mark.

‘There’s every chance of maybe bringing in a couple of strikers before the weekend. There are no names to be released just yet as nothing has been done yet, but there’ every chance of one coming in, possibly two. Me, Terry and Darren have been ringing up old friends, new friends, trying to make new friends and seeing what’s around.’

The gaffer went on to say that we know what we need, and a defender to cover suspended Ben Nugent is now one of them, so the work has been put in this week and discussions have been had, he just hopes the deals can be done in time for the weekend.

He also says that at this time of year generally it appears to be the same players available and in some ways that probably tells it’s own story.

The Tidser links seem to stem from the fact he’s spent some time training with us, but apparently we aren’t in a position to offer him a deal.

With news of the long term injuries to Simon Gillett and Kevin Dawson, you wonder if that has now changed since he gave that particular interview.
