Not A Lot To Be Disappointed About

Manager Gary Johnson has said that there’s little he can be disappointed about when it came to last nights score less draw against Watford.

Watford certainly aren’t having the campaign they would’ve expected following their own play off push last season in the Championship, but few would’ve tipped us for a result again, like the last time we faced them in many ways, but the confidence from that match certainly paid off and in all areas that count apart from goals scored, we had the best of the game and created enough chances to have taken the match one nil.

In recent times we’ve played pretty well but not managed to keep it tight at the back, so the clean sheet last night – the first since we played Birmingham – will definitely be a good confidence boost for the players, and if we can now gel that with nicking goals at the other end things will certainly look brighter.

Unfortunately with the chances we had, like the Millwall game for many, it is however another two points potentially dropped and there is frustration from that.

Speaking to the press following the game, Johnson however preferred to talk about his pride in the team for their efforts and their continued improvement at this level.

‘Other than not scoring a goal there was nothing disappointing about that display. We’ve got to keep solid and keep together and find a game that creates chances at this level and we did that. I’m honest and I wasn’t disappointed, we played well. There was a lot of endeavour and work rate.’

Johnson says he’s not smoke blowing, or just building up the players, he genuinely feels that is the sort of performance he can be confident with, because we now seem to be finding a base level of performance that means we are competitive and good in all areas of the pitch, but clearly this is the level of performance we have to keep and cannot slip below now in his mind. It may have taken us until March to show a consistency at this level, but we simply have to make it count now in every single game until the end, and if we can improve clinically we have every chance in the world.

As Johnson comments himself, the trick now is to get back to back wins in two games to really close that gap, and then we are back amongst it.
