Gary Johnson’s Sunday roast will taste better today, whereas son Lee’s might not, after a stunning Glovers win at Oldham Athletic on Saturday as Johnson Snr guided us to a 4-0 win at Boundary Park.

Lee’s Oldham side, challenging for promotion out of SkyBet League 1, were stunned by the travelling Glovers as we boosted our chances of avoiding dropping into SkyBet League 2 with a stunning win.

This makes it Gary Johnson 1 Lee Johnson 1 in previous meetings, perhaps the return meeting at Huish Park later in the season will settle things?

Stephen Arthurworrey was quickest to react to his own effort, after his header hit the post, to smash home the rebound to give us the lead with this soon extended when Jordan Clarke, among the goals recently, turned provider to set up Simon Gillett to score.

If Mike Jones, who went close to getting a goal back, had scored for Oldham we might have wobbled but he didn’t so we didn’t!

The travelling Glovers fans were left in dreamland when we made it 3-0 before half time when Oldham defender Genseric Kusunga’s mistake allowed Sam Hoskins to take advantage of his early Christmas present.

Had we ended the game there and then I don’t think anyone would have rejected, well from an Oldham point of view anyway! We could have added more in the second half but both Sam Foley and Tom Eaves were guilty of wasting good chances, but it didn’t matter too much.

We did have the final say when Kieffer Moore, another that was expected to miss out in this game as Eaves was, fired home the fourth in injury time that should give us the type of lift we’ve been looking for as Christmas came early.

The performances have improved, will this provide liftoff?
