Manager Darren Way has said that Morecambe was a missed opportunity for Yeovil at the weekend, and having ended up losing the game because we ‘switched off’ that was even more galling.

Travelling the Globe Arena on Saturday for the match, Yeovil took the lead but the hosts hit back with two quick goals following Darren Ward’s strike and Way had to admit that he felt let down by the players come the full time whistle as three points were in our hands.

Speaking to the Western Morning News in his post game press interviews, a disappointed Way explained.

‘We talked about it at half-time and said if we don`t get anything out of this game we are the only ones to blame. The players know that. I am very disappointed and it is the first time I have felt let down as a manager. I expect them to feel let down within themselves because that was an opportunity to get a good result. I have been trying to prepare myself for this sort of situation and I feel individual performances have not been where they should be, for whatever reason. They need to ask themselves some questions. There were phases of play where we looked a yard off and weren`t anticipating situations. We did exactly the same preparation, so you find out in these sorts of situations who can handle the pressure of trying to get out of the relegation zone. What I don`t want to happen is that the same player keeps letting us down. I have said if there is anyone who is not fully committed to this football club, or the game or pattern we are trying to play, I am going to give the players licence to sort it out. We have got enough experience in there. It is going to take a lot of team work to get this club out of relegation and I am expecting the group to lead that. So if there is a regular problem I am going to address it and that is the first time I feel let down and that they let themselves down.’

Way was asked about the conditions with snow on the day, but he wasn’t going to use that as an excuse because it was the same for both sides and for him the conditions wouldn’t have anything to do with people switching off either.

‘The conditions were not the greatest but that`s what it`s like for both teams and you have to deal with that. I want this team to be mentally strong and have resilience about it. If you go 1-0 up away from home it is important you secure that and I feel like individual performances weren`t good enough.’

Goalscorer on the day and skipper Ward was largely singing from the same hymnsheet in his own after match interviews.

The Western Gazette have the 37 year old quoted as saying that the conditions weren’t to blame when it came to us losing the match, as Ward had to acknowledge if the team perform like that, they won’t deserve to avoid relegation this year.

‘I thought that we were our own worst enemies there. Conditions weren’t good but that is no excuse whatsoever. You have got to get on with it. We are professional footballers who are paid well and it was probably an excuse for a few. Throughout the game we faded out in patches and I don’t think we were strong enough all round and made too many mistakes. Both goals were poor. It was straightforward defending and there were a few areas where I thought we should have done much better. We shouldn’t be losing against teams of that standard, with all due respect, with the players we have got. We should be winning and we had opportunities to. The lads know exactly what is expected of them now, from the manager to the captain. We have got to do something about this league form because it is not good enough at all.’
