Darren Way has said the fighting spirit shown by the Yeovil side in the weekend’s fightback against Barnet will stand them in good stead moving forward this season.

Hosting Barnet at Huish Park and having a half time deficit of two goals, a spirited fightback in the second period with a brace coming from Francois Zoko was enough to take a point from the match, and speaking to the Official Site, Way said that it was exactly that type of second half determination and display that would keep Yeovil up this year.

‘It was fantastic, I thought it was entertaining football. I thought the environment was excellent to be in, and is exactly what we need this year to make sure we complete that objective of staying in this league. Anyone who thinks they can turn up at Yeovil Town Football Club in the position that I’ve taken over in and it’s going to be easy: no chance. Every team is fighting for points and every point matters, and that fighting spirit will keep us up.’

With 274 appearances to his own name at the club as a player, Way admitted that he was desperate to get the first win as gaffer under his belt, and even though it didn’t come against Barnet, he’s convinced if we repeat the second half showing more consistently in the future, that win wouldn’t take too long to come around.

He also felt it would prove to be a very important point come the end of the season.

‘I know the supporters wanted that win, I wanted that win, but sometimes in life you don’t get everything you want. It may be small marginal gains but we have to make sure we keep fighting for it this year because there’s so much to play for.’

Obviously the goalscorer on the day came in for special praise and he admitted the staff were doing things differently with him, to get the best results.

‘He done a different warmup to the players the other day against Oxford, as we were looking at the heart rate monitors and the readings from the other first team players like Darren Ward who really look after themselves. It was completely different readings. We’re trying to do everything we can to get him fit as quickly as possible and he showed today what quality he has got, so we’re really pleased with Francois.’

Carrying the interim tag at the minute, Way also admitted he doesn’t know how long his spell will last but whoever wants the job will have to fight the 36 year old for it.

‘I’ve been looking forward to every minute, every second of this job, I love it. If there is someone out there, and I`m sure there is someone who wants this job, they’ll need to have a good scrap with me to get me out this office now!’
