Manager Paul Sturrock has said he’s still confident he’s the man to turn things around at Huish Park following another loss last weekend against Northampton.

In quotes carried by the Western Morning News from his post game press conference following the two nil defeat, an obviously disappointed gaffer wasn’t giving up the fight yet.

‘It doesn`t take a rocket scientist to understand that 12 games without a win is getting to the low ebb but to be fair I still believe I can turn this around as a football club. At the end of the day if I didn`t I would walk away from the scenario myself but I still feel I brought these players here and I believe in these players. The chairman and I and the other owners have discussed where we go from here and I`m very confident that with the two cup games coming up and the training we can put into it ourselves, these players will turn this around. All we have to do is make sure we are still in this league at the end of the season and that there are two teams below us then we can sort out the chaff from the corn as far as who we build the team around for next season. It`s unfortunate the injuries came at the time they did and what`s happened is that we`ve lost a lot of confidence due to tight results.’

With Harry Cornick hitting the bar and one great save in particular from Josh Sheehan, Sturrock went on to say that for him there was certainly a sense of being unlucky again as for him it wasn’t a two nil loss on the balance of play – we just didn’t have the rub of the green.

‘I don`t think there was 2-0 in that game. If I was a neutral watching that game, I wouldn`t have thought it was 2-0, if you came in and didn`t see the goals you wouldn`t have thought there was a 2-0 game here but we keep talking about it every week.’

And that’s the problem, whatever positives or improvement or growth Sturrock has seen of late, it’s rarely reflected in the scoreline and with every passing game patience ebbs away and frustration builds.

It’s not a good mix especially after the last few years.

Yet that one win could just be the spark needed to lift confidence, performances further and cause a turn.
