As covered earlier when manager Gary Johnson said that he didn’t feel Ed Upson maintained his standards this season, the midfielder has tried to put his own slant on things.
As fans will remember Johnson said following his departure to Millwall.
‘Over the past couple of months he hasn’t been one of our better players and for whatever reason he hasn’t come up to the standard of what we hoped he would in the Championship.’
Upson is however quoted by Southwark News as responding to the claims with the following.
‘He can say what he wants – if he wants to say that about this top goalscorer, that’s fine. I’ve got no doubt at all that I’ve made the step up to the Championship. I’ve proven myself with my performance and goals.’
When Upson does finally face off against Yeovil again it could be potentially awkward as Upson went on to say.
‘The circumstances were slightly strange before I left. Things became a bit hostile but I don’t want to go into that too much.’
Doesn’t really say anything at all does it, just hints enough for the press to pick up and spread, it’s the only way I knew about it. I can’t even find the original source or an online article, but I noticed it on our fellow Vital Millwall site and in the newsfeeds a few others have picked up on it as well.
Shame it seems to have ended on that note, but when we face Millwall later, Upson is not eligible for the game owing to a clause inserted into his full transfer deal.
