Following the sacking of Paul Sturrock earlier today, new interim gaffer Darren Way has released a statement talking of his pride at the role.

The statement was released on the Official Site and in it he explained.

‘I am proud and honoured to be given this opportunity to be interim manager of Yeovil Town and I feel I have worked hard throughout my career to have been given this chance. We are all disappointed to be in the position we are in at the moment and I can assure everyone of you that I will be working my hardest to try to turn our fortunes around.’

With Terry Skiverton taking the lead last time, Way went on to say that ‘he’s not expecting’ anyone else to do the job for him, he will live and die by his own sword so to speak.

‘I know that the decisions and selections I make will fall on me and only me. I want a group of players that are going to pull together as a team, I don`t want a team of individuals. This will not make us win every game but will certainly make us better in the long run. I think that working for Yeovil Town Football Club should be a privilege. It is now up to myself and the players we have here to prove to the fans that they are privileged to be at Huish Park as football can change quickly.’

Way went on to echo something that Skiverton said many months back in terms of their now being a disconnect between the club and the fans, and that is something he would dearly love to repair during his time in charge now.

‘I would love for the players and staff to bring the supporters closer together with the club as I feel for a long time now that the togetherness has not been there. I know the only way we can do that is by winning games. The club now has to see avoiding relegation as a success and we will be working as hard as possible to turn things around. As long as we focus on that and work together, I am sure we will achieve this. This is going to be a hard task, but I can assure all Yeovil Town fans that I will be showing leadership to try and bring smiles back to Yeovil Town Football Club.’
