We Dealt With Hope, Now The Game

Having already covered manager Gary Johnson’s calmer thoughts following the defeat to Barnsley yesterday, I’ll now focus a bit more on what he actually said about the game and our performance itself.

In quotes carried by the Western Gazette from his post match conference, the gaffer labelled the showing we put in as ‘boyish’ and even in the more toned down official site coverage he said basically it was difficult to put his finger on what went wrong yesterday, because he hadn’t got enough fingers to cover everything that had gone wrong, so ‘boyish’ invoking thoughts of amatuer is probably a pretty good choice of words.

‘It was a poor performance. I don’t think anybody turns up to see that bad a performance. The players don’t turn up to see that bad a performance but they did and it was a bit of a boyish performance.’

Johnson goes on to say that Barnsley did turn up however and that was why they scored four goals ultimately. They were stronger, quicker, cleverer, more driven, showed more desire and we gave them their goals in effect, which the gaffer thought was a bit daft because he’s not sure they needed any help.

‘Our boys didn’t put any part of Yeovil’s game together. That was like a group of lads off the street that we have put together and just asked them to play.’

The manager goes on to say that he feels it was our worst performance of the season in terms of the 90 minutes, as although we’ve had bad first and second halves before, that’s generally been an either/or situation, we haven’t been that off things for an entire game before and if the management team have anything to do with it, the players will be acknowledging that after the next few sessions on the training pitches because he knows if they want to stay in this division, then that simply isn’t acceptable and if they think it is they might as well give up now, but he’s certainly not going to.
