Paul Sturrock might have guided us to a point in his first game in charge but this point against Notts County, under the guidance of their own new manager Ricardo Moniz, wasn’t enough to keep us in League 1 with relegation confirmed on Saturday….

The inevitable fate, as has been on for many, many weeks, of back-to-back relegations was confirmed following the one-one draw with our fellow relegation threatened side at Huish Park.

Sturrock’s reign started positively with Foley’s freekick turned into his own net by a Notts County defender Hollis (10) as he headed us into an early lead.

A win wasn’t something that the former Plymouth, Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Southend manager, among others, could guide us to following his appointment ahead of this game after a brief consultation appointment with Torquay.

Late on Campbell-Ryce set up Thompson (79) who earned Notts County a point, who remain without a win in eight-matches and are a point from safety.

This point, which sees us the first team confirmed as being relegated from League 1, ended a run of six successive defeats but leaves us cast 10-points adrift at the foot of the table….

A season that was meant to see us challenge for immediate promotion back to the Championship, which unsurprisingly ended after just one season at that level for the first time in our history, has seen Gary Johnson sacked and Terry Skiverton unable to turn the tide now we’ll hope that Sturrock can revive our fortunes and turn us around into a position going in the right way!
